The exhibition is an initiative by LOVE architecture, a renowned architectural firm specializing in contemporary design approaches. Their goal is to make the artistic aspect of their work tangible through an impressive neon installation.
They draw inspiration from the architectural principles of a real construction project: the new headquarters of 50Hertz in Berlin’s Europacity.
The distinctive feature of the building design is a network-like column structure that forms not only the external framework but also creates an architectural structure inside. At night, selected strands of the structure are illuminated, creating sinusoidal curves on the exterior facades. This results in a captivating play of light, transforming the facade into a different network at night compared to the daytime.
This concept of lighting arrangement is captured in the „Lights On“ exhibition and translated into a spatial installation at the Architektur Galerie Berlin. A network of neon tubes is mounted along the interior walls of the exhibition space and illuminated with different lighting dramaturgies. This creates varying network structures while keeping the basic framework visible. The lattice of light dematerializes the underlying walls, giving the impression of gazing into emptiness. Visitors are transported into the interior of the building and appear to be looking outward.
The installation in the gallery thus represents an artistic and immersive interpretation of the design of the building in Heidestraße. It allows visitors to experience the atmospheric questions and snapshots associated with lighting concepts in the urban outdoor space in a direct and emotional way. By blurring the boundaries between reality and artistic interpretation, the installation prompts contemplation of the diverse possibilities of light design in the urban environment.
