FLOATING
DISK
WSW Wuppertaler Stadtwerke Wuppertal (D)
A light, seemingly floating object at the corner of Carnaper Straße and Bromberger Straße defines the new office building for Wuppertal's public utility company.

This rather flat structure, maximized in its horizontal extent, extends to the boundaries of the competition area and the surrounding streets. The somewhat smaller first floor follows the rising terrain. Above this, three office levels are combined into one structure, the slice.
Incisions and intersections in this „slice“ (the extension of the idea of atriums into the exterior space) structure the building structure and thus create a variety of views and perspectives.
The access road to the company premises is directly east of the competition area. In terms of urban planning, the corner of Carnaper Strasse and Bromberger Strasse will be redefined, and an exciting and clear new entrance will be given to the Wuppertal public utility company’s premises.

Office landscapes, atriums and more
The corporate organization of Wuppertaler Stadtwerke shows a multitude of relationships and connections between the individual corporate units. The idea of a generous and spacious office landscape optimally maps this network. At the same time, the individual areas are versatile, flexible and thus sustainably playable. Vertically, these levels are connected by the cores and the spacious atriums. This creates an office landscape that is as flexible as possible with short distances, without giving the impression of a conventional open-plan office with all its negative associations.
