Exhibition Graz Kulturhauptstadt 2003/Schloss Eybesfeld — Graz (A)

„LOVE“, „the Kulturhauptstadt“ (“the Cultural Capital”) and „Eichhörnchen“ (“Squirrel”) are the three parts of a neon installation, that has been placed before the highway exit in the east of Graz during the European Capital of Culture Year of “Graz 2003”.

Travelers, coming from Vienna, are approaching Graz along the downhill leading part of the highway A2. The installation appears in a long left turn, that is already visible from far away.

At first, you encounter the word “LOVE”, then the message “the Kulturhauptstadt” is revealed, and you finally meet one of the tail wagging squirrels of Graz. At the latest when the visitors reach this point they know: now I arrived.

Since 1989 the palace garden of the Eybesfeld Family is used as a presentation area for art. Two of the three objects of the neon installation, namely “LOVE” and “Eichhörnchen” have found a new home in the Eybesfeld Park.
