PLAYING WITH
THE STRUCTURE
Lights On Berlin (D)
ArchitekturGalerieBerlin deals with contemporary architecture and its design approaches and shows ideas, designs and buildings in conceptual exhibitions.
LOVE architecture is about making the artistic approach of their work tangible by means of a neon installation. They will generate an installation on site, in reference to the space and local conditions, that demonstrates the artistic form-finding of their work. At its core, the installation deals with atmospheric questions and snapshots.
The work in the gallery is derived from a building currently being realized in Berlin’s Europacity: the new corporate headquarters of 50Hertz.
The design is essentially characterized by a net-like column structure, which also represents the outer supporting structure of the building and at the same time structures it architecturally. At night, individual column strands of the supporting structure are illuminated and sinusoidal curves are created on the exterior facades. Thus, a different network appears on the facade at night than during the day.
This idea is taken up and translated in the form of a spatial installation in the gallery: a network constructed from neon tubes is attached to the interior walls of the exhibition space and illuminated in different light dramaturgies. Different network structures are created, whereby the basic structure always remains visible. The latticework of light dematerializes the walls behind it, creating the impression of looking into the void. The visitor is thus given the feeling of standing inside the structure and looking out.
